ACNE – ONE OR TWO THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER HEARD BEFORE

Acne (sometimes known as pimples) is a common skin disorder which is a great cause of concern for sufferers. This concern is heightened by the extent of misinformation available regarding the disease (acne as well as many other skin conditions). However, even with all the misinformation, we can't downplay the fact that one still has to go on seeking information with the hope of coming across solution some day.

Acne is a disorder of the pilo-sebaceous unit of the skin. Sorry you may not know what this means. It's just a small specialised system in the skin that controls sweating. There are various types of acne mostly posing great cosmetic and often psychological problems.

It is a disorder that affects many teenagers and its occurrence is similar in both males and females. The peak age of severity in females is 16 – 17 years and in males 17 – 19 years. Acne may clear up at some point but a lot of people will still continue to have it throughout life.

Acne is usually not caused by a single factor but by a combination of factors that work hand in hand to cause inflammation of the blocked units. Acne may also run in families.

Common sites acne is found are the face (most common), shoulders, upper chest and back. It may be found less commonly in other parts of the body.

Features associated with acne are greasy skin, blackheads, whiteheads, papules and nodules. There may be some lesions with fluid/water in them (acne cysts) and some may even go on to form scars. Whichever way, they are always unsightly usually pose great cosmetic problems to sufferers.

Types of acne include acne vulgaris (the commonest), conglobate acne, acne fulminans, excoriated acne, infantile acne, exogenous acne, drug-induced acne and a whole lot of others which most individuals understandably don't want to be bothered with. They just want to get rid of it. One good thing is: acnes can be taken care of. That is what they are concerned with. REALLY!

There are varieties of treatment options, both postulated and implemented, that are available for the treatment of acne. It is however unfortunate that most people come across all the wrong measures first before the effective ones or even losing faith and hope in every acne treatment even before getting to find them out.

The common effective treatments for acne include local measures, either topical (i.e. applied on the skin) or injections into the site and drug use which may be in the form of vitamins, hormones or antibiotics. The more extensive or troublesome acnes (e.g. the acne cysts) may have to be incised (cut open) and drained out.

General skin care and skin applications alone have been recognised to be of immense help in the treatment of acne. Some of them treat acne in as short as three days and also ensure it doesn't come back. They are even further considered the best mode of treatment for most acne types when one brings into consideration the many side effects of drugs and other methods in the treatment of acne.

It is however very important to treat acne with only PROVEN methods whose efficacies are in no doubt at all and whose actions are suitable for all skin types - whether dry, normal or oily skin. Whenever possible take the advice of only those that have been there before you, conquered acne and have proof for it.

As far as acne is concerned, decide not to be the guinea pig and you can actually take care of it for good.
